Stupid Tax Rules - 2

In the UK, old married couples get a tax break for being old and married. Old roughly means over 70. But if you are over 75, you get a higher tax break. But then you need to a complicated calculation on it, the effect of which is that if you are reasonably well off, you will get no extra benefit from the higher tax break.

Fair enough you say, it's to help the poor. Yes, it's true, if you are poor enough, the higher tax break will leave greater funds in your pocket every year. How much more?

Careful calculations show, starting from zero, this higher tax break can result in tax savings for the couple of any amount upto a maximum of seven pounds a year!
