An assassination in Lebanon

On 12 October 2004, a Mitsubishi Canter Van was stolen in Sagamihara City, Japan. Three months later, on 21 January 2005, the same Mitsubish Canter crossed into Lebanon from its border with Syria. On 14 February 2005, as former Lebanese Prime-Minister Rafiq Hariri's motorcade drove through downtown Beirut, a remote-controlled bomb detonated resulting in a massive blast that killed Hariri and 22 others. It was later established that the source of the blast was a Mitsubishi Canter Van carrying one thousand kilos of explosives.

Not all thrillers are fiction. You can read the full UN report into the assassination of Rafiq Hariri here.
