Twenty years ago today, a young political activist protesting a military dictatorship had the words gonotontro mukti paak - roughly translated as 'give back democracy' - painted on his back. Shortly after this photo was taken, the activist named Nur Hossain was killed by the security forces.
Democracy is once again suppressed in Bangladesh and Pakistan. But not for long. Down with military dictatorships. Gonotontro mukti paak. Inquilaab Zindabad.
